So, I've been busy. And a little uninspired. Then inspired again. And now sick. :)
I've had a good handful of runs that are 1.5 miles with no pain. I was doing them every other day, until work and getting sick sidelined it for a bit. But this week should be better and I should be able to get back on the schedule.
Basically I roll on the foam roller for a bit before I leave, and then again when I return. I've found that it feels better after having run on it, perhaps somehow loosening it up.
So, that's the long overdue update. Here's to a better week!

1.5 Miles!
Saturday I ran 1.5 miles from my house, after the roads were cleared of snow, with no sign of IT band pain!
And, for some reason, my pace was about 30 seconds faster than my normal "easy run" pace. I certainly wasn't pushing myself on purpose - just wanted to run strong and keep the hips tight so my band wouldn't hurt. Maybe it was just a fluke of super fresh legs since I haven't been running. Or maybe it was the 20 degree weather that made me speed up. Or...maybe it's the cross-training of spinning and my rehab exercises and I'm actually getting stronger! I'm hoping it was the last reason and I continue to see speedier times when I start running regularly again.
Anyway, I rolled on the foam roller before I headed out, spending more time over the parts that hurt, as one of the speakers from Thursday night's triathlon kickoff suggested to me. And speaking of that, I will have a synopsis of how that all went soon. There was a lot of good information that evening!
So I think tomorrow I will try for the 1.5 again after some continued extensive stretching and massaging.

Triathlon Season Kickoff
Tonight I am going to a triathlon season kickoff meeting at Cycle Sport & Tri here in Loveland. They used to just be Cycle Sport, but it looks like they are starting to branch to become a triathlon hub too, which would be awesome! I saw in the Fleet Feet e-newsletter I get that there was a free meeting tonight with speakers covering some different topics about triathlon. I really would like to do a triathlon some time. I feel like this year will be either running focused (i.e. another fall marathon) or triathlon focused, which sounds so fun. This is all assuming I can run again :(
Here are the topics covered:
I'm really excited!

Spinning Wednesday
I think I have got this spinning thing down. Here's why.
1. 5:00 a.m. doesn't feel that early anymore.
2. I did everything the instructor said to do throughout the class.
When she said up the resistance, I did. When she said you can stay at a jog or run this one, I ran it. When she said during the recoveries to go ahead and add jumps back in when ready, I did it then. It was hard and it felt great!

One Mile Complete
Yay! I ran one mile! No pain!
But I haven't ever had pain within one mile, so I suppose I shouldn't get too excited. I will keep doing this for a while and just get the body back into being able to run.
One mile is extremely short when that's all you're running. It felt great. The sun was out and felt warm on my face. It would have been very nice to have stayed out longer, but all in good time.

A New Month
I'm going to try to run a mile soon. As in hours. After work.
But only one mile.
It's a beautiful sunny day and I need it.
