This past week I've finally been successful at getting all my workouts in. Yay! I ran 4 days and biked 2. And my body seems to be handling it OK, other than I'm a little tired today. (I attribute that to getting up early all weekend.) Perhaps the work-from-home experiment has made it easier to train... we'll see how this week goes.
And speaking of this week, beginning this week I am going to start training a bit more seriously. I'll write about it weekly and try to keep it interesting, which might be a challenge.

Wednesday Night 5K
So it wasn't as full as track stars as I thought it would be. :)
Overall the 5K was a lot of fun. We all lined up near the canoe livery. Precisely at 6:30, the guy heading up the event said "Go!" after warning us to stay clear of the bikes. I don't think he warned hard enough about that, as I saw some disgruntled bikers passing after stupid runners were in the oncoming lane. I don't blame the cyclists, I'd be very pissed too.
There were probably about 30 - 40 people there, and maybe half of them were junior high or high school kids with people coaching them. There were all kinds of levels of runners and even a couple of walkers.
I started out at a 9:41 pace for my first mile. Then the loads of Indian food I had for lunch began to haunt me. I hadn't exactly planned for this 5K- just decided at 4 o'clock: Hey Greg wanna do a free 5K? So I proceeded to get the awful food cramp in my side and slowed down a bit, ending with an overall 10:15 pace. :(
It was interesting to see a guy coaching a girl who looked like she was going to die, and sounded like it too. He miraculously kept her going, encouraging her and telling her how to breathe and to relax. She did awesome. And I thought, "so this is what it's like to be coached".
Greg did great- hadn't ran in over a month and still did a 8:18 pace. I guess all I can say is I'm glad to have a base time now to improve upon.
I'm looking forward to doing them maybe each week if I can, even if I don't push it each week. It was a lot of fun to run in the heat with a bunch of other crazies.

Summer Heat
It's been awhile.
Not much new on the running front except I am finally up to running more during the week. Last week I ran every other day successfully and this week is heading the same direction.
Tonight I'm going to run a free 5K from Bob Roncker's Running Spot store on the trail. Each Wednesday at 6:30 they hold a free, out-and-back 5K and you get your time. I think it will be fun to run with a bunch of people rather than solo, though I will probably only be running with them for like 2 minutes if that. I'm guessing these are going to be speedsters. Oh well, I'll see them again after they've turned around and are heading back... maybe suck some motivation from them then.
It's hot out, so I'm going to take my security water bottle. I ran yesterday after work and it was equally as hot. At least this run will be in the shade – that makes all the difference.
